- + Carbon Neutral Programme
-
We have teachers flying across the globe into the UK from places, like Australia, New Zealand, Canada and South Africa to start their teaching journey with us. We recognise this has an impact on our environment, so Teach in has partnered with Carbon Neutral:Plant-A-Tree program. This means everytime we book our teachers a flight to the UK we plant a tree on their behalf to contribute to Carbon Offsetting and give back to the environment. Each teacher receives a Carbon Neutral Certificate to show that a tree has been planted on their behalf once their flight has been booked.
- + International Placement Experience
-
We are invested in the training and development of teachers across the globe and as such we offer Australian trainee teachers the opportunity to complete an international placement experience in the UK through Teach in. Undergraduate teachers in their third year of a Bachelor of Education are selected to participate in a three week practical placement in our partner schools in the UK. This experience is available to all eligible students. We currently have students from Federation and Monash Universities in Australia participating. This is a free service to aid in the development of these young teachers. It has proven to be a very rewarding experience for all Stakeholders. Watch our video below to see more
- + Love2Read
-
At Supply Desk we wanted our corporate social responsibility (CSR) to directly give back to the market/sector we work with. We also wanted our CSR to have a wider and more lasting reach and impact. As a result we formulated our Love2Read Programme for our client schools. We also give our current teachers the opportunity to upskill and become Love2Read tutors.
The ability, or lack of ability to read impacts the whole curriculum for pupils and alters their life chances. You could be a great mathematician, but if you can’t read you can’t sit the exam – same with Art, PE and all the other non English or literacy based subjects within the curriculum
The ability to read, we therefore saw as a basic human right – to leave school and to be able to read ingredients, directions, letters, a newspaper etc
Guided by the stat that 1 in 5 children in the UK cannot read well enough to sit their exams effectively by the time they reach exam time – we knew our CSR projects had to Focus on creating interventions to improve literacy levels for pupils across the UK
We worked with various organisations to create a training programme for tutors which would focus on how to re engage pupils with reading and one that would work alongside any other interventions being run across schools in the UK
The training developed is a book-based programme which focuses on decoding, comprehension and pupil engagement, and very importantly focuses on developing a Love of Reading -so we called it Love2Read.
We chose schools to pilot the project in highly deprived areas (high SEND, FSM, EAL, deprivation, low starting points) as we wanted to test how effective the programme would be in even the most challenging of circumstances and demographics.
We achieved outstanding results in both primary and secondary schools and as a result we now offer this as a paid program to all our schools across the UK. For further information visit our Love2Read page.
